SONG OF THE YEAR

After visiting his Grandfather, a World War II combat veteran who is interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Roger wrote his first song White Crosses. He began playing it at his shows and people began asking Roger where they could get that song. After numerous requests, Roger recorded White Crosses and released it in July of 2018. He wrote White Crosses in the spirit of those who have served and sacrificed their lives to protect our freedom. Roger has many relatives interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. He is also the proud dad of two sons who are actively serving in the Army. White Crosses has over 6,000 streams since the July 2018 release on Spotify alone. It has been played on local radio stations and is a popular request at Roger’s shows.

This award is based on an individual musical performance on a solo album or solo single release by a solo artist or named front man.*Submission should include name of artist and name of eligible song released 2015-2018, a video clip (optional) of this song being performed live and a concisely written statement as to why this artist is deserving.

At the end of the category list on the nomination page, you will find a nomination form where you can submit your respective nomination. All nominations are due by 11:59 PM CST on Sunday, January 20, 2019. The Midwest CMA Board of Directors will review all nominations for credibility and eligibility and announce the nomination finalists for each category. All category nomination finalists will be awarded one free admission to the Midwest CMA Music and Award Show. The Midwest CMA Board reserves the right to make the final determination on all nominations. Those nominating may be contacted post-nomination for more information as deemed necessary by the Midwest CMA Board of Directors. Nomination finalists will be voted on by Midwest CMA members. Midwest CMA award winners will be announced at the Midwest CMA Music and Awards Show on Feb 17th a the Medina Entertainment Center!
SONGWRITER/S OF THE YEAR
This award is for the songwriter(s). Any country music song with original words and music is eligible based upon the writer/s selections released from the 2015-2018 time period. This award is open to individual songwriters as well as songwriting partners and/or groups including bands who write their own material. This award should consider the entire body of work for the writer/s and focus on lyrics, composition, quality of recording and success of distribution.
*Submission must include a name of songs (no more than 10) along with a concisely written statement as to why these writers are deserving
